Woman Connect Network: Driving Progress and Inclusion | HCLTech

Overview

The Women Connect Network is committed to elevating women's voices at HCLTech, empowering them and further recognizing, valuing and celebrating their distinct identities and achievements. By providing an extra layer of support, this network enables women to take advantage of opportunities and help supercharge progress for everyone. It provides a forum for women to advance their careers, manage professional development and have productive conversations about the problems and prejudices that exist in the workplace. This dedicated Employee Resource Group aims to engage and advance women through development programs, advocate for a gender-neutral work environment and drive a culture that supports, values and empowers women with no barriers to success.

Testimonials

We as women face many challenges. One of the things I’ve learned from my experience is to be authentic, to make sure you are who you are and that you're not apologizing for it. Find sponsorship in your networking group and never be afraid to ask for help.”

The first piece of advice I would give to an early career woman is to negotiate. Be confident in who you are and what you're bringing to a position, and be willing to negotiate if you're not in agreement with what has been proposed. The second thing is to take smart risks because you never know what may be around that corner and it may be something that's really great for you.”

We are all role models and we need to make sure we are visible. Our visibility in STEM, especially, will help the younger generations have confidence in their capabilities at school so they are not the only female in the advanced math or science class.”

Make sure you're building broad connections because your next opportunity is not going to come from the person who is directly managing you — it's going to come from the network you're building within your organization as well as outside your organization. When I look at every single career jump I've had, it's been from building connections adjacent to my current role.”

As you are completing your work, be proactive about asking, 'What did I do well here and what else do I need to work on to get to the next level?' It shows initiative that you're willing to take feedback and it shows drive that you're not willing to settle for the job you have and are preparing for what's to come, which is so important for career growth.”

It's important to know ourselves and to invest time to learn about emotional intelligence. Learn how to deal with difficult situations. Learn as much as you can and at the same time, accept problems and failures as part of the process.”

I've always told my daughters that being financially independent is critical. Financial independence gives you the confidence to stand on your own and gives you the strength to put yourself first. It’s important for each one of us to be role models for young ladies and highlight the importance and impact of financial independence and equity in the corporate world.”
