Overview

Our client is a major group of three regional entities under the Australian government that sought the consolidation of three different technology systems under a single umbrella to optimize costs and capabilities for the technology infrastructure.

We helped our client with consolidation of technology systems by our cutting-edge software-defined solution using Nutanix’s hyper-converged infrastructure running with vSphere and NSX.

The Challenge

Integration issues with multiple, separate, independently managed systems into a single solution

Our client faced several challenges with its consolidation of independently managed systems into a single solution for production, disaster recovery, virtualization and running key applications for day-to-day operations.

Collectively, these systems supported over 130 different applications (with plans for growth) via SCADA and Microsoft SQL that presented challenges with its consolidation into a single future ready solution with ease.

Some of the key challenges include the following;

  • Infrastructure support for extensive virtualization via VMWare vSphere
  • Need for a long-term single solution as the current, legacy infrastructure, was reaching the end of its lifespan
  • Requirement of a full-fledged solution as an MSP that could implement a “next-generation” solution that offers tangible business advantages over their legacy architecture

The Objective

Implementing a cloud-ready solution with software-defined infrastructure and hybrid-cloud-capable management tools

Our client wanted a high-performance solution capable of supporting the new combined public sector IT infrastructure and improve service responsiveness, while providing redundant, high-availability technology.

Furthermore, they also wanted to reduce spending on power, data center space and administration or operations and secure a solution with integrated disaster recovery capabilities.

The Solution

Transitioning to a full-fledged single entity with public/hybrid cloud infrastructure

We helped our client accomplish its objectives and transform technology delivery across multiple public sector organizations, with a proven single-entity MSP that provided an end-to-end orchestration of their new implementation.

The key highlights of the solution comprised the following:

  • We utilized our extensive experience and delivered the solution that provided an overall executable solution offering Nutanix technology
  • The new solution comprises two DCs, utilizing Nutanix hardware and software to run a private cloud environment (with a shift to the public or hybrid cloud on the future roadmap enabled by the new infrastructure)
  • In collaboration with Nutanix, we provided all the needed capabilities to scale up a comprehensive solution for storage and computing
  • The future-ready solution is designed to be highly resilient, backed by a self-healing architecture that limits risks to sensitive government data

The Impact

Achieved an end-to-end single-entity cloud infrastructure with long-term benefits

  • Achieved support to all 130+ apps for public entities while delivering an environment with key advantages over its predecessor
  • Witnessed a  more responsive infrastructure than ever before with additional new capacity deployment into use, the same day
  • Ensured a space for virtually unlimited scaling that is not only agile but prevents the need for costly spending on the excess capacity for the DC
  • Administered  a true software-defined stack, with Nutanix’s web-scale engineering
  • Provided the capabilities to the admins to conduct management tasks across all these consolidated systems through an easy-to-use, single-pane management tool, Nutanix Prism
