Our client is a multinational technology company that specializes in internet services and products. It sought to enhance its test automation infrastructure and tools to adhere to its data security and privacy policies. They also needed to integrate the solution with its continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) process, support accessibility testing when using external tools and reduce license costs for external test automation infrastructure and tools.
The Challenge
Integration and accessibility issues
The client’s unique CI/CD process and its rigorous policies made it impossible to use widely available tools. As a result, they desired a solution that would integrate its test automation infrastructure and tools with its CI/CD process and adhere to the company’s strict data security and privacy policies.
In addition, the client needed to support accessibility testing when using external tools and reduce license costs for external test automation infrastructure and tools, as that requires purchasing more customer relationship management software licenses.
The Objective
Build a test automation infrastructure and framework
The client turned to HCLTech to construct a test automation infrastructure which addressed their challenges. They also needed the solution to:
- Be easy for other client teams to adopt and maintain
- Enable live reporting
- Permit multiple test cases to run in parallel without impacting performance
- Ensure compatibility across all devices, platforms and browsers
The Solution
Fit-for-purpose test automation infrastructure and framework for rapid test case development
First, HCLTech studied more than 50 of the client’s in-house tools, which were built with strict data security and privacy in mind. We then proposed and built a fit-for-purpose test automation infrastructure and framework using one of the client’s 1P user interface instrument and framework systems for rapid development of automated test cases.
We also trained the client’s project team members.
The Impact
Automation, strengthened quality and cost savings
Throughout the project, HCLTech and the client tracked improvement KPIs. The final post-implementation report notes that the solution meets the client’s goals of high data security and privacy, as well as ease of adoption and maintenance for all their teams.
The highly reusable solution, which HCLTech can adapt for other clients by making minimal infrastructure changes, required no tool investment costs and resulted in cost savings of $1M a year. The client anticipates that savings will be even higher in the future. It also reduced dependencies among teams and QA execution time by approximately 85%.
What’s more, HCLTech accelerated the client’s time to market via continuous automation and automated regression testing, while enabling higher-quality products and services.
