Genmab leverages HCLTech and Salesforce to improve patient experiences

Key Takeaways

Genmab's primary mission is to help patients in need through innovative biotechnology. This focus drives the company's initiatives and strategic decisions, such as its collaboration with HCLTech and Salesforce to improve digital capabilities

Challenges in scaling digital assets and bringing new products to market were significant hurdles for Genmab. The partnership with HCLTech led to the development of a modular, templatized content management system and digital experience platform

The impact of the collaboration with HCLTech has enabled Genmab to scale efficiently in emerging markets and launch products more rapidly, positioning Genmab for continued growth and commercial success

Genmab, a leading biotechnology company developing innovative antibody therapies for cancer and other serious diseases, is on a mission to help patients in need through its cutting-edge technology.

In a recent interview with HCLTech Trends and Insights at Dreamforce, Kanad Chatterjee, Director, Commercial and Omnichannel, Genmab, shared insights into the company’s ambition, challenges and the role of HCLTech and Salesforce as crucial partners.

Explaining Genmab’s core focus, Chatterjee said: “Our primary mission is to help patients who are in need and help them with our innovative technology within the biotechnology space.”

However, the company faced challenges in scaling its digital assets and bringing new products to market quickly. “When we started with Salesforce, the scalability and the speed of going to market was a key challenge,” stated Chatterjee. “We wanted to go the MVP approach — let's go ahead with the base fundamental technologies, and then we will innovate on that,” he added.

Partnering with HCLTech for a modular, templatized solution

To address these issues, Genmab partnered with HCLTech to create a modular, templatized content management system and digital experience platform. “HCLTech came in and really understood our vision, that we really want to create a templatized, modular content management system and digital experience platform, which is also connected to the larger omnichannel ecosystem within Genmab,” said Chatterjee.

The impact of this collaboration has been significant. Chatterjee noted that it has enabled Genmab to “get ready to scale in emerging markets” with a “launch in a box model” that can be easily replicated across new products and regions.

“We have all the capabilities in place, and we know how to scale emerging products whether we are expanding in Japan, Europe or United States,” he said.

Improved content management and speed-to-market

Additionally, the partnership has improved content management and publishing, allowing Genmab to “maintain them easily, publish content in a much faster pace with better quality.” This, in turn, has empowered the company's commercial organization to “go to market super-fast.”

Chatterjee highlighted the successful launch of a major website with HCLTech’s support, stating, “We recently launched one of our major websites, which has 80+ pages and 100+ modules. We also already launched our general website by leveraging some of that we already built.”

HCLTech’s flexibility and expertise

Chatterjee praised the flexibility and depth of HCLTech’s team. “The HCLTech technical team understood our requirements and our business requirements. And I think this team has been very flexible. They have delivered the width and the depth, both on the technology side.”

While Chatterjee acknowledged that Salesforce could benefit from providing more industry-specific templates, he noted that HCLTech’s expertise helped Genmab overcome this challenge. “We built our own team, and Salesforce doesn't provide that, which is a message for Salesforce. They should bring in industry-specific templates. However, if it's not there for the time being, there is a way to do it.”

Overall, Genmab's partnership with HCLTech has been instrumental in accelerating its digital transformation, improving patient experiences and positioning the company for continued growth in both established and emerging markets.
