NOIDA, India, April 4, 2024: HCLTech, a leading global technology company, has been rated A- for its climate change initiatives by global environment non-profit CDP. This underscores HCLTech’s deep commitment to contribute to the global efforts to mitigate the impact of climate change on the planet.
HCLTech is committed to achieving net zero target by 2040. The Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) has validated and commended the company’s emission targets. By 2030, the company aims to achieve 50% reduction in absolute scope 1 and scope 2 emissions, compared to 2020 baseline and transition to 80% electricity usage from renewable sources.
HCLTech is the first India-headquartered company to join the Water Resilience Coalition and endorse the CEO Water Mandate. In FY23, HCLTech replenished 26 times more water than it consumed in India. Through HCLTech Grant Americas, the company has committed $5 million over five years in grants to NGO combating climate change and restoring ecosystems and biodiversity.
“Sustainability is at the core of HCLTech’s business strategy. We are delighted to receive the ‘leadership’ rating from CDP for our continued endeavor to bring transformative impact on climate action strategies and our high level of disclosures. Such benchmarks are crucial for doing business sustainably and will benefit our shareholders, clients and employees,” said Thimmaiah P, Senior Vice President, Global Workplace Solutions, HCLTech.
Considered the gold standard for corporate environmental reporting, CDP analyzed and rated over 21,000 companies in 2023 based on their environmental disclosure and performance. It gives A and A- ratings to companies demonstrating environmental leadership, disclosing action on climate change, deforestation or water security. The companies must demonstrate best practice in strategy and action as recognized by frameworks such as the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), Accountability Framework and others. CDP scores are widely used to drive investment and procurement decisions toward a zero carbon, sustainable and resilient economy.
