Call Detail Record (CDR) is the detailed record of all the telephonic calls that pass through a telephone exchange or any other telecommunications equipment. The record is maintained by the concerned telephone exchange and contains call details such as time of the call, duration of the call, source and destination number, completion status of the call, etc. Call detail records serve a valuable purpose of revenue generation for telephone service providers and are critical for law enforcement, whenever required. CDR is also used for VOIP and is a file containing all usage details such as source of origin and destination point of the call, usage period of the IP and the total amount charged during the billing period. Call Detail records are maintained by telephone exchanges emitting information in the form of tickets, with respect to individual customers/users.
