Our client is a mutual fund organization based in Australia. Their primary focus is to provide their members with a comprehensive range of products and services in various areas, such as motoring and mobility, home, leisure, financial services and general insurance. To keep up with the changing times and meet the growing demands of their members, the client embarked on a digital transformation journey. The objective of this journey was to provide a modern experience to the members and introduce new and innovative products to cater to their evolving needs.

The Challenge

Overcoming limitations of on-premises infrastructure

  • The client was facing several challenges with their on-premises member engagement applications, leading them to embark on a digital transformation journey. One key challenge was the need to improve the scalability and reliability of their applications, which were hindered by slow environment provisioning and monolithic architecture. This made it difficult for the client to meet customer needs in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Inability to incorporate platform patches and enhancements quickly, which made it difficult for the client to keep applications up-to-date with the latest features and security updates.
  • The client was limited by existing infrastructure, which was not designed to support cloud-based and modern integration patterns. This made achieving a more efficient and effective system challenging, hindering their ability to better serve customers.

The Objective

Transitioning to cloud-based member engagement applications

As part of its digital transformation journey, the company aimed to migrate on-premises member engagement applications to a cloud platform. This migration was designed to improve the scalability and reliability of applications while addressing IT constraints such as slow environment provisioning and monolithic architecture. The client also aimed to incorporate platform patches and enhancements more quickly. To achieve these objectives, they sought a reliable partner capable of implementing a scalable platform that supports cloud adoption and new integration patterns. The ultimate goal was to build a more efficient and effective system that better serves customers.

The Solution

Implementing a scalable middleware architecture on MuleSoft's Anypoint Platform

We successfully implemented a middleware architecture on Anypoint platform to facilitate API-led integration. This architecture was enhanced through software supporting workflows, business rules and other related applications. The suite of services was packaged and offered to the client's Lines of Business (LoBs) as a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solution. To ensure rapid development while meeting strict security, audit and governance requirements, We deployed ADvantage Code for MuleSoft to meet customized platform analytics needs and compliance requirements and also utilized our proprietary ROAR (Real-Time Operational and Analytics Reporting) framework. ROAR is a next-generation reporting solution delivering end-to-end transaction tracking and domain-specific business insights aggregated from logs across different applications, including integrations. The implementation of sub-flows packaged as a reusable MuleSoft utility library standardized pluggable code and addressed common non-functional requirements, allowing for the migration of integrations, business processes and rules from the monolithic architecture to MuleSoft's Anypoint Platform. We also enhanced, managed and supported over 300 APIs, underscoring the success of their approach. The middleware architecture on MuleSoft’s Anypoint Platform streamlined API-led integration, providing significant benefits to the client’s LoBs.
