Overview
Our client, a leading utilities company faced growing challenges in maintaining operational efficiency across their complex infrastructure. Their reliance on disparate monitoring tools and systems created data silos, delayed incident responses and limited visibility into the health of their business services.
With rising demands for service reliability and regulatory compliance, they sought a transformative approach to streamlining operations, reducing downtime and enhancing service quality.
The Challenge
Fragmented, non-scalable monitoring systems that impaired analysis and decision-making
Our client struggled with fragmented monitoring systems that failed to provide a unified view of IT and operational infrastructure health. Incident detection and resolution required manual correlation across multiple systems, which delayed response times. Because key operational data resided in isolated systems, effective cross-functional analysis and decision-making were negatively impacted.
The Objective
A scalable, integrated monitoring solution
The client sought a scalable, integrated monitoring solution that provides a unified view of IT and operations, accelerates incident detection and resolution and enables practical cross-functional analysis and decision-making.
The Solution
Assessment, remediation and implementation
HCLTech conducted an in-depth assessment of our client’s IT and OT environments, operational workflows and monitoring tools. The assessment determined that their many specialized management tools were siloed and that limited integration between IT and OT monitoring systems created blind spots in the operational landscape.
The client sought a system for aggregating the data from the various operational environments and tools that would allow rapid triage and resolution. Their tools also lacked advanced analytics capabilities to correlate events and provide actionable insights.
The assessment outlined a plan to address the gaps. We recommended Broadcom’s AIOps solution portfolio, which includes DX NetOps, for comprehensive network performance monitoring, Unified Infrastructure Management (UIM), for monitoring diverse infrastructure components such as servers, storage, databases, applications and cloud environments, and DX Operational Intelligence, to provide AI-driven insights, event correlation and predictive analytics.
To ensure end-to-end visibility for business services as well as IT and OT, we determined that some custom integrations were necessary to ingest data from proprietary systems and external sources. We developed custom data ingestion pipelines to integrate legacy systems, IoT devices and third-party platforms, enabling a unified representation of business services and their dependencies.
The Impact
Enhanced operational visibility, faster incident response, improved service reliability, enhanced compliance and a future-ready scalable infrastructure
Broadcom AIOps, which is running in production, provides a transformative solution that includes real-time network monitoring and performance analytics in a single pane of glass view of their IT and OT health and capacity.
The solution enables the client to manage network performance proactively, ensuring reliable communication across their grid. Proactive monitoring and predictive maintenance have reduced unplanned outages, ensuring reliable delivery of electricity and gas to customers. The solution also broke down the silos and enables data-driven decision-making.
The solution leverages AI-driven analytics to correlate events, identify root causes, predict potential issues before they impact services and provide actionable insights into the health of business services and underlying infrastructure. AI-powered correlation and predictive analytics have significantly reduced Mean Time to Detect (MTTD) and Mean Time to Resolve (MTTR).
Real-time reporting and analytics also ensure compliance with regulatory standards, helping our client avoid penalties and enhancing stakeholder trust.
Perhaps best of all, the solution’s scalable design supports their grid modernization and IoT initiatives, ensuring adaptability to future demands.
By unifying IT and operational data, leveraging AI-driven insights, and enabling proactive decision-making, our client has positioned itself as a leader in innovation and resilience within the energy sector.
