Roles and Responsibilities:
You are (or aspire to be) a specialist in the Unix Engineer in Big Data tech stack who places a high emphasis on Software Engineering fundamentals and best practices including code and configuration management, CI/CD, automated testing, observability.
As an Unix Engineer, you will work as part of a team with a mission to ensure the health of the EBD platform, thus making the right data accessible to our people and customers through tools and channels to drive faster and more informed decision making, removing friction and ultimately delivering a world class customer experience.
Experience/Exposure:
You will ideally bring the following:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
For an engineer level position, a minimum of 6 years of IT experience in software development is essential.
Basic Skills:
Solid foundation in Unix/Linux operating systems, encompassing system administration, shell scripting, and performance tuning.
Proficient in managing and operating big data technologies and ecosystems (Hadoop, Spark, HDFS, etc.) on Unix/Linux platforms.
Demonstrated expertise in effectively managing codebases and configurations.
Good English communication.
Key Skills for the role:
Proficient in automation and system management using scripting languages such as Shell and Python.
Skilled in configuration management tools, with a focus on Puppet.
Capable of installing, configuring, and maintaining Unix/Linux systems for big data applications.
Knowledgeable in networking, file system management, and security best practices.
Experienced in managing user access, file systems, and security settings in line with organizational policies and standards.
Strong skills in Linux/Unix (RHEL 7).
Able to document system configurations, procedures, and changes for knowledge sharing and business continuity.
Demonstrated experience in planning and deploying big data solutions, ensuring their compatibility and optimal performance on Unix/Linux systems.
Nice to have Skills:
Familiarity with Docker
Experience with using & operating Apache Ranger
Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions or Bamboo).
