Postgres Consultant
Job Responsibilities:
- PostgreSQL Database Administration Expert Level with knowledge of shell scripting.
- Adhering to SLAs
- Helping team members in case of Issues/Technical Problems
- Handling tickets / requests, Troubleshooting technical issues
- Ensuring that the processes are adhered to
- Responsible for successful completion of Installation, configuration, and migration
- Ensure maximum uptime according to the SLA
- Improves and maintains customer and employee satisfaction
- Implementing new technologies and design changes
- Build, manage and maintain PostgreSQL database servers in all environments
- Design and implement redundancy and fail-over strategies. Enterprise DB Failover cluster and other high availability technologies. Real scenario disaster recovery planning, testing and documentation. Multiple instances with multiple IPs but same ports with multi node EFM enable near zero data loss.
- PAM authentication and role based permission. Enforce role-based permission.
- Define and enforce configuration centrally using puppet or ansible.
- Enforce security hardening (OS + PostgreSQL) centrally using puppet or ansible.
- Monitor and tune database performance. Should have very good knowledge of PostgreSQL configuration settings and their impacts.
- Security hardening at OS layer and Database Instance layer. Data encryption at Rest and in transition by different means.
- Design and implement backup/restoration strategies per data retention requirements. Define, Test and document the Disaster scenarios.
- Provide support for software upgrade and patching. Should be able to automate patching.
- Provide insight to team leadership regarding best practices for PostgreSQL
- Diagnose and resolve production issues
- Development experience with one or more modern scripting/automation languages (Ansible, Shell, etc.)
- Experience with database performance, scaling, clustering, and tuning concepts
- Experience administering other RDBMS technologies (e.g., MariaDB, MySQL, Percona etc.) will be added advantage.
- Ability to quickly learn new database technologies that the team supports
- Strong interpersonal, problem solving, facilitation, and prioritization skills
- Strong technical acumen, able to ensure that technical solutions, strategies, practices, and governance deliver business and customer value.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and conversation skills (Verbal and Written)
- Good documentation skills
- Good working knowledge of MS OFFICE
- Should have a good customer handling skill
- Able to handle unforeseen situations
- High level of acceptance
- Can drive HCL’s values and its methodology
Other Skills / Experience:
- Familiarity with Jira and Confluence will be added advantage.
- Familiarity with Change Management / Incident Management and Problem Management
- Knowledge of Other RDBMS is a Plus
- Experience with database migration with upgrade and transformation from one DB technology to another DB technology (e.g., MSSQL to PostgreSQL etc)
