Harishma Devi, a software engineer who is pursuing her B.Sc. Design & Computing offered by BITS, Pilani for TechBees shares her STEM story in this edition of She the Future:

“It was love at first sight. The moment I set my eyes on a computer, I knew my life had changed forever.

Growing up I’d seen TV shows that had important people working with computers. I wanted to be one of them. The computer in my school gave me the ability to get some hands-on experience and fed my passion.

After school, I joined the TechBee program. The training I received deepened my love for the STEM sciences and today I get to live my dream by working as a software engineer. But this is just the beginning for me, I aspire to be a manager and lead a team of developers one day.

One of my biggest inspirations in the world of STEM is my cousin sister. She was the first in my family to take up engineering. Following her footsteps gave me the confidence to pursue my dream of studying computer science. She also empowered me to move cities to chase my career aspirations.

To young women aspiring to write their own STEM stories, I’d say: believe in yourself. Do not let yourself be deterred by the words of others. Through persistence and hard work, you too can realize your dreams.”
